My Story

For many Australians a single experience of persistent pain can change everything, and usually not in a good way. For me that moment was when I was 25 and hurt my back as a PE teacher trying to prove my youth to a class of high school students. Reinforced by specialist opinion, terrifying MRI images, workplace assessment suggestions and the fact it hurt so darn much I began to fear and avoid movement which had previously been a huge part of my life.
The fact that it took me many years, a career change into physiotherapy and continued learning to figure out that my lingering pain didn’t mean that I was damaged and fragile is frankly heartbreaking, because so many people don’t have the time and opportunity that I did.
This 7 day, 800km very hilly ride that I am going to attempt is not just a personal quest to prove just how not-damaged I am, but an effort to improve community understanding about persistent pain. To arm people with knowledge so they can learn how to become pain free a bit faster than I did. 100% of funds raised go towards the University of South Australia’s Local Educator Program which aims to make sure all Australians have access to the knowledge, skills and support to prevent and overcome persistent pain.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support, it means a lot!

Thank You
